Gary Haas1140 viewsPhoto by Paul Buehrle. Paul writes:
"New artifacts found buried in the Mystery Texan archives. Pictures are from the 1971-72 school year. I can't remember if Gary Haas was JMC or not. ...
I took these pictures with an ancient Voltlander 35mm using a viewfinder and a flaky handheld lightmeter. These photos were all slides taken in 1971-72 and pretty much stayed in a slide cube all these years."

Besides rehearsing the show, they all had to work building set pieces, props, costumes, puppets, masks to be used in the show. Tom Tamandl (who taught Spanish) and the poet, Carolyn Forche (who taught in the English program at JMC at the time), were enthusiastic supporters and performers in the show. Traditional and original music was performed by the students. Costumes and masks were based on archeological and traditional sources reflecting various ancient Mesoamerican cultures.

"I couldn't remember the source of this photo ... It's a classic. Larry Wickett of Pillowcayse fame is in lower left. ... It looks like '68 to me... 'cause I got there in '69 and I don't recognize anyone."

The numbered points arrayed around the poster provide a good summary of the JMC concept in general and the manner in which JMC portrayed itself to prospective students during both this period and the overall timeframe during which the College was in existence.
