JMC Theatre: Balm in Gilead (1974)

JMC Experimental Theatre’s first production in McDonel Kiva. A large ensemble cast in a show with multiple plots and lots of overlapping dialogue. Very difficult for the actors, but they did splendidly.

JMC Theatre: In the Bright Existence (1974 and 1976)

In The Bright Existence (1974: McDonel Kiva; 1976: on tour) - an original adaptation of the Quiche Maya Book of Counsel as translated by Munro S. Edmundson (Tulane) and the Mesoamerican Institute. A huge undertaking with a very large ensemble of students. The second production two years later was JMC’s contribution to the University’s Bi-centennial Celebration.

Two Noh plays produced in 1975 - Birds of Sorrow and Birdcatchers in Hades. The JMC troupe performed these plays in the sanctuary of Edgewood Church in East Lansing.

JMC Theatre: Chautauqua (1977)

Chautauqua: Rediscovering the American Land — tour show for the Kellogg Center for Continuing Education, created by former JMC Dean, Gordon Rohman. Student actors from JMC mixed with several faculty from other MSU units to create this traveling Chautauqua show. We toured to five (I think it was) cities in Michigan.

MSU Press Photo - September 19671888 viewsI (Randy) recently purchased this MSU Information Services photo off eBay. The image file is from the eBay listing (hence vendor markings on the image). The back side indicates this is negative # 662673-1, dated 22 Sept. 1967. Handwritten notes: "Justin Morrill College" and 'Students".

This illustrates the JMC sign above the doorway from the Snyder lobby to the 1st floor south wing (JMC staff office area).
