In the Bright Existence (1974 / 1st Production): Artistic Staff839 viewsImage provided by Sears Eldredge.

Besides rehearsing the show, they all had to work building set pieces, props, costumes, puppets, masks to be used in the show. Tom Tamandl (who taught Spanish) and the poet, Carolyn Forche (who taught in the English program at JMC at the time), were enthusiastic supporters and performers in the show. Traditional and original music was performed by the students. Costumes and masks were based on archeological and traditional sources reflecting various ancient Mesoamerican cultures.

'Russian Tables' - Sny-Phi Cafeteria - circa 1967(?)835 viewsKevin writes...

While going through old pictures for my daughter's yearbook, I came across this photo which John Reid gave me in the early 1980's, after the demise of JMC. In the early years, language students were encouraged to eat lunch together in the Snyder cafeteria and practice their respective languages.

Portrayed are 2 Russian tables. In the foreground (left to right): Debbie Sirotkin, Fran Gribble, Lloydanne Holmes (Russian instructor), Velma Campbell. In the background, the woman with glasses is Ms. Penny (I don't recall her first name); I think the guy in the plaid shirt is David Lichtman.

"I couldn't remember the source of this photo ... It's a classic. Larry Wickett of Pillowcayse fame is in lower left. ... It looks like '68 to me... 'cause I got there in '69 and I don't recognize anyone."

Doug Elbinger has confirmed (February 2011) that he was the photographer.

We gave up and officially changed the name to 'Shiloes'. The list of members reflects our 2nd drummer. This was the lineup during our 1965 - 1966 gigs.
